Certified Floodplain Manager Program

In March 1999, the Arkansas Floodplain Management Association (AFMA) voted to pursue and develop a program for the certification of floodplain managers in Arkansas. Designed to certify competency in the basic principles of sound floodplain management as mandated by the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), applicants desiring to obtain initial designation as a certified floodplain manager (CFM) must meet the following eligibility requirements.

Active membership in AFMA.
Minimum two years of related experience in floodplain management or completion of the FEMA course: Managing Floodplain Development through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), offered annually at EMI (Emmitsburg, Md.) and UCA (Conway, Ark.). See the conference & workshop schedule for dates.
Minimum education of a high school diploma or GED.
Submit a completed application package.
Pay an application fee.
Obtain a passing score on the certification examination.

Once an individual obtains certification, the following activities are required for recertification:

Continuous membership in AFMA.
Submittal of an application for recertification.
Documented evidence of continuing education credits (CECs). A total of 16 CECs must be obtained in a two-year period.
Pay a renewal fee.
